Overview | Portfolio | Our Adviser
Gladstone Investment is a buyout fund that buys small and mid-sized United States businesses in partnership with the management of those businesses and other investors. When we buy a business we provide financing for the acquisition including senior debt, subordinated debt and equity. We also make junior subordinated and mezzanine loans as well as preferred stock investments in small and mid-sized businesses that are being purchased by other investors. Investments in these companies are usually expected to be between $3 million to $20 million. We can pay cash for a business or purchase all the stock of the business with a tax free swap of our common stock.
Our goal is to pay shareholders monthly cash dividends.
Gladstone Investment operates as a closed-end, non-diversified management investment company and has elected to be treated as a business development company under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
We have two publicly traded affiliate companies that also invest in small and medium-sized companies. Gladstone Capital Corporation invests in senior and subordinated loans of small and mid-sized private businesses and Gladstone Commercial Corporation buys commercial and industrial real estate rented to mid-sized businesses.
